Home Euthanasia
Rainbow Bridge Veterinary Services provides compassionate, gentle home euthanasia for dogs and cats across South Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford and East Waterford.
Saying goodbye to a much-loved pet is never easy. We provide a peaceful alternative to travelling to a veterinary clinic, allowing your pet to remain in familiar surroundings, surrounded by the people they love.

We take time to ensure you understand the process and have the opportunity to ask questions. Your pet receives gentle sedation before the final injection, helping them relax and ensuring their passing is as peaceful and dignified as possible.
You do not need to be an existing client or have had a previous consultation with us to arrange home euthanasia.
Why Choose Home Euthanasia for Your Pet?
Choosing home euthanasia allows your pet to remain in the place where they feel safest and most comfortable, surrounded by familiar sights, sounds and the people they love. Avoiding the journey to the veterinary clinic can reduce anxiety and stress, particularly for pets who are elderly, unwell, or experiencing pain or mobility difficulties.
It also allows family members, including children, to be present if they wish, giving them the opportunity to say goodbye in a familiar and private environment. Other pets in the household can also have the opportunity to be nearby, allowing them to experience the loss in their own familiar surroundings and, if appropriate, see and smell their companion after they have passed.
For the whole family, being at home can provide more time, privacy and flexibility to say goodbye without feeling rushed. At Rainbow Bridge Veterinary Services, we aim to make this final experience as peaceful, gentle and personal as possible, with your pet's comfort and dignity always at the heart of our care.
Familiar Surroundings
Your pet can remain in the comfort and security of home, surrounded by familiar sights, sounds, smells, favourite resting places, and those who love them.
Time & Compassion
A thoughtful, unhurried approach that allows you and your family the time and space to ask questions, feel supported, and say goodbye in your own way.
Individualised Care
Thoughtful care that considers your pet, your family, and other pets who share your home, helping everyone feel supported through saying goodbye.
Comfort & Dignity
Ensuring your pet feels calm, relaxed and comfortable throughout their final moments with careful attention to their individual needs.
A Gentle and Considered Euthanasia Process
Before the Appointment
We will discuss your pet's circumstances, answer any questions you may have, and arrange a time that works for your family. We can also talk through any practical or personal arrangements to help you feel prepared.

Helping Your Pet Relax
We begin by gently settling your pet and administering sedation to help them become calm, relaxed and comfortable. This gives you time to be close to them while they peacefully drift into a deep sleep.

Saying Goodbye
Once your pet is fully relaxed and comfortable, the final medication is administered. You can remain with your pet, take as much time as you need to say goodbye in the privacy of your own home.
Areas Covered & What's Included
Rainbow Bridge Veterinary Services provides compassionate home euthanasia for dogs and cats across South Dublin and Wicklow, Wexford and East Waterford.

Our home visit fees vary depending on your location, with our coverage areas divided into three pricing zones. We aim to make our fees clear and transparent, so you know what to expect before arranging an appointment. We also believe you should know exactly what is included when arranging your pet's final appointment. Our home euthanasia fee includes:

The Home Visit
Travel to your home and the time needed to provide individualised care.
Gentle Sedation
Medication to help your pet become calm, relaxed and comfortable.
Euthanasia Procedure
The medication and veterinary care required to ensure a peaceful and dignified passing.
Keepsakes
Ink and clay pawprints, along with a small clipping of your pet's fur, to help you preserve a lasting memory.
Time to Say Goodbye
We never want you to feel rushed. You can take as much time as you need with your pet, both before and after they pass.

Our fees are determined by your location and the associated travel zone, not by the size or weight of your pet.
The price quoted includes everything listed above, with no hidden fees or unexpected extras.

If you are unsure which pricing zone applies to you, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.

Aftercare
After your pet has passed, we will help you make the arrangements that feel right for you and your family. There are several aftercare options available, and we can talk you through each one to help you decide what is most appropriate.
Home Burial
If you wish to bury your pet at home, we can offer guidance on appropriate burial practices to help protect both your pet's resting place and the surrounding environment. We will provide you with a Euthabag free of charge to assist with the practical arrangements.

Standard Cremation
Your pet is cremated collectively with other pets, and their ashes are not returned to you.

Individual Cremation
Your pet is cremated individually, with their ashes returned to you in your chosen scatter tube, basket, or urn.

Donation to Veterinary Education
You may wish to consider donating your pet's body to veterinary education, helping future veterinary professionals develop their knowledge and skills. This option is provided at no cost to you, and the donation program will cover the costs of standard cremation.

Rainbow Bridge Veterinary Services is not a crematorium, but we are happy to help coordinate cremation arrangements with a trusted provider. Cremation services involve additional costs, which will depend on the options you choose.

Where possible, we encourage you to consider your preferred aftercare arrangements before the euthanasia appointment. Making these decisions in advance can give you time to understand the available options, ask questions and make a choice that feels right for you and your pet, without the added pressure of making decisions during an already emotional time. Of course, we understand that sometimes circumstances do not allow for this, and there is no pressure to make every decision immediately. We will take the time to explain the options and support you in choosing what feels right for you and your pet.
